A multi-generational custom home that makes the most of a narrow urban lot
Driving by this custom home in Victoria, you would be surprised to see such a unique and considered home, its multiple angles set ajar by an arching roof over the entrance. This unique home was collaboratively designed by Flintstones and the client and built to replace her previous home on the same lot. Not only does the home boast a unique and personal design, but it houses two families and is built to BC Step Code three which, for a timber frame home, means it is 50% more energy efficient than a typical home.

“From design, through demo and rebuild, Flintstones executed with professionalism and efficiency.”
Client objectives
After living all over the world — from Bermuda to New Zealand and New York — this client wanted a home that reflected the aesthetics and vernacular of her global experience. She also wanted a home that would accommodate not only her but her daughter’s family as well.
Project challenges
The scope of this project was limited by the constraints of the narrow property. The design maximized the property’s infill, or the proximity a home can be to the property line and excavated a lower level to achieve a three-floor home.
Testimonial
“After vetting several firms, we chose Flintstones Design & Build on the recommendation of one of their clients. Faced with insurmountable opposition by our neighbours over our variance application, Flintstones quickly transitioned our project from renovation to demolition/new build. From design, through demo and rebuild, Flintstones executed with professionalism and efficiency. We recommend them and would engage them again should the opportunity arise.”
