Walls Disappear, Ushering a Dated Condo into its New, Airy Retreat Era
From tired and divided to fresh and open. A closed-off kitchen and cramped living room transform into a bright, seamless space. A West Coast home base for Calgary owners, this 1988-built Songhees condo is now open-concept, perfect for relaxing in comfort and style.
Pivotal to this condo renovation was removing kitchen walls and reorienting the flow. Working around a structural beam, the design by Rothschild West Design + Planning boasts increased functionality and an expanded footprint – without adding square footage. The new layout and custom millwork provide more storage, while a white palette and gleaming surfaces reflect light from the Gorge-view windows, filling every corner.
To complement the crisp kitchen, the living room fireplace was refinished with a simplified white surround. A main bathroom refresh was also completed for this Victoria condo renovation, echoing the aesthetic of a previous primary ensuite upgrade.

Client objectives
This condo renovation resulted in the coastal getaway the owners desired: an airy home-away-from-home and a spacious gathering place to comfortably host their kids and grandkids.
With an avid baker in the family, maximizing kitchen storage for small appliances and pantry essentials was also a priority. They asked for a clutter-free kitchen where everything could be stored away but also easily accessible.
