New life is brought to a historic home that was in a state of disrepair
A once crumbling old house is given a new lease on life with an extensive renovation that preserves its original character and expands its capacity. The need for a structural upgrade, including new foundations and drainage, led to the addition of a legal ground floor self-contained suite with eight-foot ceiling heights throughout. Upstairs received a full renovation with an upgrade to the kitchen and great rooms that included new doors and windows.
Inside, upgrades to mechanical systems included electrical, plumbing, gas and a fireplace. New hardscaping and staircases, a patio and stone cladding modernized the exterior and gave this family extended access to the outdoors.

Client objectives
Key to this project was the preservation of a historic home with an upgrade that would not only fix the problems but also upgrade and future-proof the house for changing needs.
Project challenges
The original stone foundations of this home had sunk over 12” on one side over the years. Additionally, the house was damaged by badly deteriorated foundations and by the absence of any perimeter drainage. This issue caused major disruption and cracking throughout the house.
